Rick deTreVilleRick de Treville, CPP, is security and life safety manager for CNL Commercial Real Estate.  He joined CNL in September of 2007 after serving as police training coordinator for the University of Central Florida Police Department. He is also president of Security Matters Consulting Corporation, whose recent clients include Orange County Facilities Management, Sonitrol Corporation, McLane Suneast Distribution Center, the Crime-Prevention Institute of the Florida Attorney General’s Office, and several civil attorneys. 

De Treville’s private security career for the past 22 years includes director of security and safety positions with SeaWorld Adventure Park-Orlando and the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort - Hyatt Hotel’s regional headquarters. From January of 2004 to July of 2006 he was Senior Manager of Security Operations for the Orange County (Florida) Public School District - their first certified law enforcement officer in security management.   

Since 2002 deTreville has been an instructor at Valencia Community College, where he teaches Security Issues in Hospitality as an associate instructor in their Tourism & Hospitality Institute.  He has taught CPTED to police and school resource officers for the Florida Attorney General's “Florida Crime Prevention Institute” for over ten years and has provided hospitality security training internationally in a partnership with the Criminal Justice Department of the University of Central Florida and ASIS-International.

In 1996 de Treville became board-certified in security management when he earned the “Certified Protection Professional” designation from ASIS International (the American Society for Industrial Security). He is also a “Certified CPTED Practitioner” by the Florida Attorney General’s office and a certified instructor for the Florida Division of Law Enforcement.

After completing five terms as chairman of the Greater Orlando Chapter of ASIS International, de Treville served two years as assistant regional vice-president for ASIS Region XIII. He was the 2004 advisory board chairman of Mid-Florida Technical School’s Security Program, which serves as Central Florida’s training academy for state certification of Florida-licensed private security officers.

In 2004 de Treville was elected treasurer of the board of directors of the Florida CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) Network and was re-elected treasurer in 2006.

His presentation included a very pictorial walk through of a CPTED presentation highlighting the two most important goals: to demonstrate to the criminal, don't bother with this site and to the customer, come in, you are safe and welcome.
