The Altamonte Springs Police Department, in partnership with the
Attorney General’s Office, opened the Seniors vs. Crime Storefront
within the COPS Center located in Altamonte Mall in July 2004. To
help reduce the embarrassment or fear some seniors feel, the Seniors
vs. Crime Storefront will provide an opportunity for seniors to
speak with a senior peer if they feel that they have been, or are
currently being taken advantage of or victimized. In addition,
trained “Senior Sleuths” will assist senior victims with civil
complaints and quite possibly help them recover lost money. The
Seniors vs. Crime Storefront is staffed by trained Senior Sleuths on
Tuesdays, from 12 pm – 4 pm, Wednesdays, from 9 am – 1 pm and on
Fridays, from 12pm - 4pm.
Sandi Jernigan is originally from Brady Texas
but has lived in Florida
most of her adult life. She is retired from Bell South and A.T.& T
and has been with the Seniors vs Crime program for 5 years. Sandi
was instrumental in opening an S.V.C office in the Osceola County
C.O.A. building last year. Sandi and her volunteers handle civil
problems for the Seminole and
Orange County areas. She will have information on the other offices for you.
